The breath freezes in my nostrils,
My toes are numb and tingling,
My fingers are stiff from the cold.

The wind is bitter and biting,
Nipping my ears, tossing my hair,
I close my eyes against the blast.

"Wear a hat," Mama always said.
Never! I never would listen.
Just to be rebellious and "cool."

Yesterday's frigid cold and wind
Brought me to my senses.
I pulled a hat down over my ears.

Mama was right.
It felt good.
