Each evening I sit and think about that day
Wondering if I could have done or would have done
Something differently than I did
And I try to smooth out the rough edges of the way
I pass the hours
Thinking back on what I said to you
Wondering if it was the right thing to say
And if it eased your mind
Thoughts of you always smooth the rough edges
While easing mine
Seems so very long ago, and yet, like yesterday
When you left, without a trace of you for me to touch
All of you stayed inside my head
Trying to smooth out the rough edges of you leaving
To make it easier
So, all that's left for me to do
Is take your face, forever embedded in my mind, and
Run imaginary fingers over it
Trying to smooth out the rough edges of my dreams
To bring you back
For just awhile
