As the day winds down
Softly tweet quail chicks
Crickets loudly chirp
Roadrunner clicks and clicks

Cars with stereos blasting
Pass the house with noise
Neighbor's dog barking
Children put away their toys

Then dark starts to descend
Sunset colors light the sky
Television turned up loudly
Making me ask him why

Benny parakeet flaps wings
Pretending he is flying away
Lights get turned down low
As night takes over for day
