I remember the day in Port Clinton

walking the beach with you

holding hands, picking up shells

I know you remember it too

we sat on a log of driftwood

and talked of so many things

we took each other's pictures

hearts light as kites on strings

we sat on a hill with a picnic

gave kisses between the bites

not thinking about the pin-prick

that would send our balloon out of sight

we talked about the here and now

a future had no existence

we listened to music that filled our souls

while time became more insistent

it soon became time for us to part

the hours together so fleeting

I would leave with you a piece of my heart

and hopes for another meeting

we planned to see each other again

but alas, it was not to be

we have a short past, no present, just pain

and no future for you and me

our love is still here inside our hearts

it will never go away

and I'll always remember the wonderful time

we had in Port Clinton one day
