She was alone in the house, watching a horror movie on the tube. Only a candle was lit, as she was quite frugal and was trying to conserve on her electric bill. She cuddled under a blanket for the same reason. She had not turned on the furnace.

She noticed a dim light showing through the drapes. She heard noises outside. The doorbell chimed. Frightened, she crept to the door and peeked out through the little window to see who was there. What she saw terrified her. She was shaking. The doorbell chimed again. She knew she had to answer it, for she had heard threats that if she didn't open the door, dire things would happen. Slowly she opened the door just slightly. Several frightening faces looked back at her.

"What do you want?" she asked with a quiver in her voice.

"You know what we want, Lady."

Tears started trickling down her cheeks.

"Oh don't be so silly," spoke one of the voices. "All you have to do is give us the goods."

She reached into the container and gave them what they wanted.

"Finally!" They said in unison, and then they left.

Just as she was about to close the door, someone else came onto her porch, and again she was frightened.

"Trick Or Treat!"

"Darn!" She thought. "At this rate, there won't be any chocolates left for me."
