You are the fragrant
Vine that twines
Around my heart
Sweet Valentine.

Hearts are jealous green
Hearts are pale and pink
Your own is red, deep and true.
Valentine, I love you.

Birds will n'er sing
Sun will ne'er shine
'Til you know the heart that pines
For you, lovely Valentine.

Your freckled face smiled
Wound your sweet hand around mine
As the fist of a babe wraps a thumb,
Newborn.
In the sudden love of it
I knew that you
Would be my Valentine.
