A new month, a new year,
Should it be glum or bring new cheer?
Should I laugh and dance,
Or go out and shovel snow?

Another year as I sit and think,
Realize how insignificant I really am.
Not a wen on the whole,
Just an insignificant boll.

A thorn in some sides,
A sparkle in a few eyes,
Just a damned old fool
Who likes to write.

The snow piles up,
The hills grow steeper,
As the shadows,
Do a lot more lengthen.

Is my run over,
Will it all end,
Or will I continue
To think, muse, ponder and really wonder?

January again, sis-boom-bah,
Five more months until it is spring.
Time to screw the head on right,
And to think about the taxes.

But then as I read and look about,
I ainít half bad off when at others I look.
I can walk, talk and my brain half works.
Shucks, heck, come what may,

It will a good year be,
Twenty nine down and thirteen to go,
Will it be over and all gone?
Shucks now I must lose weight.

Another January, another year,
A lot already I have seen,
Different places, different times,
But shucks, know what?
I expect to live it the fullest!

January a brand new year
It will come again don't you fear
So who was it that drank my beer

The trash man will come a day late
I'll blow my resolutions that I hate
Growing older at a fast rate

No mail will come to the mail box
Lost in the wash one of my socks
Need to get a style for my locks

January a brand new year
Someone will be rude causing a tear
Fireworks woke me from sleep, Oh Dear

Having turkey for dinner it will cause gas
Old year has disappeared at last
Need to put miseries into the past

January a brand new year
Someone will grumble of this I fear
Now who will go out and buy me a beer

here we go a merrying into the coming year
its strut your stuff and toot your horn
make a joyful sound
rattle the pots and pan on the front porch
as i walked the old year out the new
spark off the thought,
why isn't every night
like this

Janus...the god who sees both forward and back.
This is the month that does the same.
If things last year sort of went off the track,
Doesn't mean that you are to blame.

Here comes a brand new year to screw up!
All the things that you didn't do.
Open the bottle,,,Pour me a cup..
You'll wonder how the time flew.

How many times will you hear the words:
"Well, after all, at your age,,,"
And you realize that buzzards are only birds.
As long as they stay in the cage.

These days the time passes more quickly.
It flies by like a huge jet.
Your demeanor has become more prickly,
There's no time to waste,,,and yet...

I will smell all of the flowers,
Even the ones that make me sneeze!
I promise to not count the hours
I spend just sitting in the warm breeze.

It's Winter for sure--the temperature's dropping
Bunnies are snuggling and not outside hopping
Birdies are sheltered in sunny trees
Wind is a-whipping and stirring a breeze.

Cat at the backdoor looks for a snack
Put out some tuna and he'll come back
Suet for the birds hangs from a tree
Everyone gets a good meal for free.

Dark are the nights, windy with frost
Camellias are blooming so all is not lost
Some things survive no matter what
Whether it's cold or whether it's hot.

THE PAST YEAR VS THE NEW YEAR
(A NEW BEGINNING IS JANUARY)

Twenty 0' Seven was a year of eventful happenings for sure.
I fell very ill and almost died; I hope Twenty 0' Eight will bring a cure.

My little family all got together for Christmas, and that made the year so very good.
It is just as a family should be, yes it should.

A new baby (great-nephew) was born with a difficult time,
But everything is looking good, and we hope he will be fine.

Youngest daughter got a promotion, and is doing well.
It is a difficult and stressful job, and as a detective there is no shortage of crime, this I can tell.

Oldest daughter is making changes in her business for the new year.
She wants to have more free time for herself and family, and about this she is sincere.

What will happen in this New Year is yet to be told,
But we must embrace the new and let go of the old.

January One

The silence screams,
The last month gone,
Of gawdy, class, and carols,
At 12 o'clock January gonged,
Who knows what she heralds.

The future keeps its counsel,
Events of wars and seasons and scars,
Creation of saints and sinners.
Happenings vary, the future won't tarry,
Past and tomorrow, both losers and winners.
