Spring Is In The Air

By Marilyn (LaraOct7@aol.com)

White tulips, daffodils, forsythia, lilacs, cherry blossoms. Spring is in the air!

April showers, tulip magnolias, new green leaves. Spring is in the air!

The Bradford trees are full of bud in my part of Maryland. The birds are singing, and I see many already building their nest.

The challenge for this Write to a Picture page is to tell us what signs of spring you see where you are. Submit a poem, musings, or a story. Fiction or fact, we look forward to your entry.

The Bare Bones of Winter

By Swampetta (SWAMPETTA@aol.com)

The green slowly covers the sludgey white.
What was frozen now is melting.
The occasional daffodil or crocus reluctantly
Peeps through.
Hoping snow is finished for now.
The forsythia have more bravado!
They are open and gloating in yellow.
If snow comes they will just spit it away.
Tulips and Iris are just sticking their toes out.
But when they arrive, they do it with a brass band.
I watch and envy them.
Spring is much slower to me.
When it arrives though, it seems to me...
It does it in one day.
BBBBOOOOOMMMMMM!!!
Every thing is in bloom.
I've been counting the red buds on the tree out of my window.
I see it coming but it is always a surprise.

Spring Is In The Air

By Amy (Fabulousfilly@aol.com)

oh the signs of spring
the birdies will sing
high in the trees
and fly on a breeze

orr the roads and the avenues
oh my! what a view
they soar
for evermore

along the rivers valleys and rills
grow thousand of golden daffodils
they bloom all at once and then they are done
to many they bring pleasure and lots of fun...

the robin they say
is one way
of knowing spring has sprung
or a vine growing up a ladder's rung

crocus, tuplips and a whole lot more
spring is what we are waiting for

No Spring In The Air Here

By susi (Texaswishr@aol.com)

not a robin, not a sprig of something green
nothing to indicate the coming of Spring
light dusting of snow comes down each night
and melts away in the next day's sunlight

not a crocus, not one tulip leaf pushes thru
nothing to say there is anything new
lots of sunshine and blue skies, but icy winds
and frigid nights as Old Man Winter grins

Spring is in the air? that's the title of a song
I think that this winter has been extra long
a heavy snow is predicted for tomorrow's morn
looks like it will be a while longer 'fore Spring is born

Spring Is In The Air

By Phyllis Ann (Starbird55@comcast.net)

Spring is in the air,
Children play outdoors without a care.

Bicycles go up and down the street,
People wave as they greet.

Dogs are walking on leash at Masterís side,
Little ones in strollers get a ride.

Men are out getting lawn mowers in shape for the season.
Women are getting flower beds ready, and Spring is the reason.

Tulip Magnolias, Forsythia, Red Buds, Daffodils bloom in all their splendor.
Yellow pollen can be seen on every car hood and fender.

Spring is in the air again in the miracle of life.
Grandpa is sitting on the square with his whittling knife.

Spirits soar as we get a whiff of natureís nectar perfume,
As once again we emerge from Winterís gloom.

Chollas Cactus

By Sharon (Sunyskys1943@aol.com)

IT'S A MEAN THORNY DEVIL
GETS IN FINGERS AND TOES
BUT IT HAS A GOOD PURPOSE
AS ANY PURPOSE GOES

THE CACTUS WREN PAIR GATHERED
LOTS OF TWIG AND SOME TWINE
AND BUILT A NEST ATOP THAT
PLANT WITH PRICKLY SPINE

SO THEY CAREFULLY FEATHERED
A SOFT SPOT FOR THEIR EGGS
AND THAT'S EXACTLY WHERE THEY
PLACED EACH ONE THAT WAS LAID

THE NEIGHBORS HAVE A MEAN CAT
THAT HUNTS BABY BIRDS IN SPRING
ONE TIME IT KILLED A BUNNY
INTO THEIR HOUSE TO BRING

BUT STILL THEY LET THAT CAT OUT
TO HUNT DOWN AND TO KILL
BRAGGING ALL THE WHILE THAT THEIR
CAT HAS GREAT HUNTING SKILL

WELL THAT CAT TRIED TO GET THE
CACTUS WREN'S BABIES TOO
HE WENT HOME COVERED BADLY
WITH THORNS IT'S OH SO TRUE

IT COST THEM SIX HUNDRED BUCKS
TO GET HIM MENDED RIGHT
STILL THEY LET HIM MEANDER
OUT EACH DAY AND THE NIGHT

I WONDER WHO IS DUMBER
THE OWNERS OR THAT CAT
HE WAS INJURED FROM HIS DEEDS
THEIR PURSE NO LONGER FAT

Spring Is In The Air

By Tom (tomWYO@aol.com)

spring in a special place,
pretty flowers, lots of green,
put my weary soul at ease,
as I see the signs of spring.

spring flowers evokes smiles,
and makes one think of love.
enhances one's soul it does,
as the old adage about spring fancy.

so stop and smell the flowers,
look about and enjoy the moment,
for it could quickly change,
for it is a naughty spring

Spring 'Tis

By Barbara (Brierhillbarbara@aol.com)

Tulips, daffodils, bulbs of all colors
Forsythia in bloom
Lilacs in bud
Dandelions too.
The first signs of spring.
Leprechauns dance and shamrocks grow.
The wee ones from the Isle of green.
Are they real, course they are.
You only need faith to believe.
Green beer to drink and tales of old.
Aye 'tis spring .
Spring!'

The Lilac Tells Me

By Bob (C1ydeBunky@aol.com)

The lilac tells me
Spring is here.
The grass is sere from winter and the trees are bare,
But the lilac knows.

Seasons lie about their time,
The lilac knows not to dissemble -
Naked in winter but so delighted to reappear in costume
The lilac bids us welcome the new season.

Signaling without fail the start of bloom and blossom
Which come to brighten the earth -
Would that the way of the lilac informing
Be the way of the world!

Spring Is In The Air

By Joy (JOY3032@aol.com)

Somewhere Spring is in the air
Somewhere the birds are singing
But here in Michigan where it's cold
Winter is still lingering

The morning starts in the twenties
Then long about three the cold's subsiding
We have some hope for Spring-like weather
But at nightfall we need some imbibing

Michigan, oh Michigan
We love your lakes and hills
But the time from November to April
Gives us all the chills

We wait and wait for sunshine
And the ice to finally go
The weatherman gives us cause to hope
But he's wrong again I know

We're a sturdy bunch of people here
We can survive in any weather
But give us a break for goodness sake
There must be something better

My hopes are failing quickly
But look up in that barren tree
A robin is there and singing
Is this concert just for me?

"Tomorrow will be warmer"
Is my Mantra every day
I've been disappointed many times before
That's the Michigander's way

COME SWEET SPRING

By Mary (MusingByMary@aol.com)

Come sweet Spring,
refreshing me anew
Please go to sleep
dear Winter friend
take this icy chill with you !

Sweet Spring I love to
welcome ~ I'm so fond of you;
fields of wildflowers 'n
happy bird songs,
always turn gray skies to blue!

Robin red~breast
hurry now, fill
the air with song,
bring the greening of the trees
you've been away too long !

Revive my heart
sweet, lovely Spring
alleviate this pain;
show me hummers & butterflies
I love the joy you bring!

Too pensive, me?
'Self, you'd better behave'
still ~ I can wish for
Spring, can't I, and
return of love I gave?

So beckon I, Spring come
those embers perhaps ignite,
like Ezekiel's dry bones
and love rekindled
BRIGHT !

Dedicated to all
seekers of Spring:-)

Love and warm hugs,

Evil Charms

By Connie (CSThomas@aol.com)

Little flower of the field
Your blossom has come into view
No others can match your beauty
The sun doth shine on you

The rain has given you strength
And nights have given you rest
In time to come, my Beauty
An ugly weed will change his dress

He'll try and sap your will to live
Envy has hastened his growth
Evil charms drip from his leaves
Be aware of his undergrowth

Don't be fooled by constant praise
It's to deceive your humble heart
He aims to flatter you
He's good at this kind of art

He will stand beside you
At a time when the storms will come
His leaves will soothe your fears
But evil is what he'll become

It'll be a ruse to break your spirit
His intent is to make you blind
You must be strong and not give in
You won't know what's in his mind

Do not listen to his charms
There's another side to him
One of which you've not yet seen
He emits a future that's sure to be grim

Spring Is In The Air

By Jeanie (Mingo184@aol.com)

SPRING CREPT IN BUT NOT TOO FAST
IT JUST SEEMED SPRING WOULDN'T LAST
THE WINDS BLEW WILDLY
AND THE RAIN PELTED DOWN
SPRING WASN'T ABOUT TO WEAR ITS CROWN

I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO TULIPS IN BLOOM
AND GIVING DAFFODILS PLENTY OF ROOM
SWEET SMELL OF NEW GROWN GRASS
HURRY UP! DON'T LET SPRING PASS!

SUN SHINES BRIGHT AND THE DAYS WILL GET WARM
HAPPILY THERE'LL BE NO MORE WINTER STORM
DOGWOODS IN BLOOM, COLORING THE TREES
FLOWERS GROWING AND NOURISHING THE BEES

THOUGH THE CALENDAR SAYS SPRING IS HERE
YOU COULD FOOL ME, MY DEAR
HURRY UP, SPRING,
AND DO YOUR THING!!
