A Perfect Day's End

Out on the porch swing
as evening falls
fireflies glow
nightbird calls
the sun goes down
the stars come out
neighbor's dog barks
and the kids shout
my cat's curled up
on the swing with me
woodsmoke on the air
no fire I see
inside the house
the radio plays
a Glen Miller tune
the porch swing sways
the night is dark
the breeze has stilled
the day has gone
I am fulfilled
