On the Surface

You are a skyline of dreams
pointing to tireless efforts
making me see reality
pushing me towards the edge of
that reason to believe in you and me.

I am the light from a candle
exposed to the daily wind
moving in the right direction
while the flame remains alive
for my sense of orientation.

We are like quick sands of fear
ready to swallow perceptions
with excuses for temptations
as much as savoring wine
served on the surface of time.

Sometimes we canít see the difference
between what goes up or down
but we stand on our ground
collecting the meting wax
fallen out of rhyming verse.
