Left Behind

You gave me a green-stoned ring,
A peridot, a beautiful thing,
You sacrificed, and I know it.
You could not afford it.

A workman used my phone,
Violated my home, stole my ring,
A peridot, a beautiful thing,
So I lost it.

I went to the store, bought another,
So you would never know your loss,
Should we cross on the day
Of “wearing of the green.”

He cheated me from the one thing,
You touched that I could touch,
A circlet of love,
A peridot, a beautiful thing.

Then I found one thing more,
A book of devotionals for women,
You speak to me through its poetry,
A little book, a beautiful thing.
