Old Memories and Young Hopes

"We must always have old memories
and young hopes" the poet wrote,
These things I have always had
'tho they sometimes seem remote

Memories are made each day we live
and young hopes renewed each year
What would we do without either?
Remembering and dreaming would disappear

Many times a day I live in yesteryear
Remembering happier other times
When I was filled with those young hopes
When I wrote them down in rhymes

Young hopes, and old memories,
We all have them, they are our treasures
While we remember our past, dream of our future
we never run out of these pleasures
