She sits at her vanity contemplating her looks.
An inheritance has had her looking at models in books.
Perhaps a face lift would make her a beauty,
But her conscience says, “wouldn’t it be better to give to charity, a solemn duty“?
Vanity of vanities, where does the heart lie?
“Is beauty skin deep, looking in her mirror“, she cries?
To be youthful, to be old, that is the question.
What is your vanity, your true confession?
A vain woman is not to be desired.
Her beauty is superficial and not to be admired.
Inner beauty, be comfortable in the skin you're in.
Self-esteem and empowerment come with loving yourself;
It’s where to begin.
This is a quote from a group trying to help young girls develop “inner beauty”…….“You’re Beautiful On The Outside When You Recognize Your Beauty On The Inside!”

TIS SAID VANITY THY NAME IS WOMAN
BUT THIS MAY PROVE QUITE UNTRUE
MAN WITH HIS FANCY CAR AND TROPHY WIFE
IT APPEARS HE IS VAIN TOO
THAT SINGLE STRAND OF HAIR HE LET GROW LONG
THEN COMBED IT OVER HIS BALD HEAD
PRETENDING IT MAKES HIM LOOK MUCH YOUNGER
BUT SILLY IT SEEMS INSTEAD
VANITY REALLY BELONGS PUT AWAY
IN A DARK CLOSET NOT SEEN
NO MATTER IF IT IS MAN OR WOMAN
VANITY TRULY IS MEAN
DO WE NEED TO BE BEAUTIFUL FOR ALL
OR DO WE DO IT FOR SELF
LET'S PACK THAT VAIN SELF IN A TIGHT SEALED BOX
STUCK ON A BACK CLOSET SHELF
IT SEEMS WE WOULD BE SO MUCH HAPPIER
ACCEPTING US AS WE ARE
INSTEAD OF WATCHING OURSELVES IN MIRRORS
BE KIND TO THOSE NEAR AND FAR

Why is it that women are percieved as vain?
Do men not wear out mirrors as well?
Isn't Botox quite a pain?
But it will make your wrinkles swell!
Who is it women are dressing for?
Usually the men in her life.
Smoothing complexions pore by pore,
Hand the doc a bigger knife.
Now the guys are spiffing up.
Gray hair is no longer distinguished.
Want to look like a real young pup?
Even if the fire is extinguished.
We should look about 24,
Even if he is old and pruned.
Keep looking youthful evermore.
Heaven Forbid, if the illusion's ruined!

So, you think you’re really something,
More exceptional than the rest.
Thinking, to your words, people cling,
And with your looks, they’re all impressed.
Everything about you is tops,
How wonderful you think you are.
Guess God pulled out all of the stops,
Carrying perfection that far.
How do you remain so pleasant,
Deigning to hobnob with mere folk -
Every peon and peasant?
Does that give your ego a stroke?
And the way that you strut around,
All of your moves so confident,
As if your feet don’t touch the ground,
Or your excrement leave a scent.
You certainly are self-assured,
No shrinking violet are you.
To insults, you’ve become inured,
Criticism just can’t get through.
Being so vain must swell your head,
Until the pressure makes you blind.
You really should face facts instead -
Vanity is all in your mind.

Vanity, a word to go along with pride,
But laying all that pride aside,
What is left but therapy,
A shopping trip for you and me.
Don’t really have to have money along,
Any store will let you in and belong,
We can act like ladies of independent means,
Even if our undies are split at the seams.
We can raise our eyes and say "I’ll think about it,"
Or "When will you get this in yellow?" (she bit).
Then spend enough for two cups of tea,
That’s my idea of "vanity."
